Paul Olum Award

Jaclyn TohJaclyn Toh, a senior majoring in geography, is the 2008 recipient of the prestigious Paul Olum Award. Olum was the 13th president of University of Oregon from 1980 to 1989.  The UO Alumni Association awards this trophy annually to honor a graduating student who best exemplifies Olum’s commitment to intellectual growth, integrity and the university’s well-being.

Toh, an international student from Singapore, will graduate with a 4.0 cumulative GPA. After graduating, Toh plans to work at home in Singapore for her family’s company before attending graduate school in the U.S. to earn an M.B.A. Toh not only excels academically but also is extremely involved on campus. Toh has served as president of Mortar Board, vice president of the National Society for Collegiate Scholars, a recruiting representative for Clarks Honors College, and is an editor and contributor for “Global Talk,” the first multilingual publication printed in Oregon. She has also received recognition from Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities, the International Culture Service Program, as well as the 2007 University of Oregon Centurion Award that recognizes the top one hundred student leaders on campus.

Toh enjoys volunteering with Food for Lane County, the UO Assault Prevention Shuttle, and at Eugene’s annual Truffle Shuffle. Toh, a talented singer and dancer, has performed on several occasions during International Week on campus. Toh’s extensive activities and accomplishments never tire her because she is passionate about helping others and staying involved. “It’s important to have passion for what you do,” she says. “It’s not what you do. It’s about doing the things you love to do.”
