UO Fulbright Award Winner Heather Zissler ’00 Heads to Brazil to Study Private Reserves and Conservation
ImageThe US Department of State and the J William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board has awarded a Fulbright scholarship in Ecology/ Environmental Studies to Heather Zissler ’00. Graduated from the UO in 2000 in International Studies and Spanish, Zissler will be working in Brazil as a Fulbright Fellow to conduct research with the World Wildlife fund.

Remembering Ben – $100,000 Memorial Gift Supports UO Innovation Fund
Image When Bob Eder and Michele Longo Eder of Newport, Oregon heard about an innovative new tax credit program that provides sustainable economic development efforts and a way to honor their son, Ben who had passed away, they decided to make a gift. “We decided to contribute to the University Venture Development Fund at the University of Oregon as a tribute to Ben because he had such a positive experience there,” says Michele. “We are involved in sustainable economic development efforts and Ben had an entrepreneurial flair. We are glad to support efforts to translate research into commerce.”

UO Student’s Outdoor Program Tunes Up Abandoned Bikes for Campus Commuting
ImageThe University of Oregon has converted a couple of dozen abandoned bikes into a fleet of loaners for campus commuting.  In the first few weeks of the term, students quickly scooped up the loan program's 30 bikes, and 80 more are waiting for a chance at their own set of wheels.

Homecoming ’08
Image Revisiting traditions from UO’s past, Homecoming 2008 included a festive 40 float parade through campus and a rousing pep rally featuring the UO cheerleaders and marching band. The fun continued Saturday at Autzen Stadium at the sold-out UOAA Alumni Tailgate Party where over 1000 alumni and friends celebrated the weekend and the evening win over the UCLA Bruins.

Alumni, students, faculty, and Eugene community leaders joined together to celebrate the achievements of three distinguished graduates of the School of Journalism and Communication. The 2008 Hall of Achievement (HOA) Dinner and Awards Ceremony took place October 10 at the Eugene Country Club, and A.L. Alford, Jr. '60, Doug Bates '68, and Ken Metzler '51 were inducted in to the Hall of Achievement for their outstanding career achievements.
