UO Day at the State Capitol - February 25

Duck

The Office of Government and Community Relations is now confirming participants to help advocate for support of University of Oregon legislative priorities on Wednesday, February 25th at “UO Day at the Capitol.”   The Legislature will make difficult decisions this year that may have a tremendous impact on the University of Oregon.  By volunteering, you can help us keep the university strong and vibrant.

UO Day at the Capitol is a key part of our legislative advocacy strategy.  Trustees, alumni, students, faculty and staff meet together with legislators, and your advocacy for student access and facilities is important in these tough times.  The Office of Government and Community Relations does all the planning, scheduling, talking points and leave-behinds – your role is to talk about your own UO experience and how funding higher education makes a difference for Oregonians.

You may join us for as much of the day as your schedule allows—a half day or just an hour or so, whatever is best for you.  For new advocates or those wanting a refresher, we’ll begin with an orientation session at 10:00 a.m.in the State Capitol (900 Court Street NE, Salem) Room 350, followed by meetings with legislators from approximately 10:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  Finally, please join President Frohnmayer and friends of the UO in the Galleria to view the University of Oregon display of maps celebrating the 150th anniversary of the state of Oregon’s admission to the United States.

Please confirm your participation for February 25th by contacting Karen Scheeland at 541-346-5021 or karensch@uoregon.edu by February 13, if possible.  Please let us know whether you have a preference on which legislators you visit. Oregon residents can identify their legislators with a quick visit to: http://www.leg.state.or.us/findlegsltr/.

Once we receive confirmation of your participation, we’ll provide you with information regarding the schedule for the day.  Thanks so much for your help!
