Q & A with UOAA Denver Chapter President Liz Glen ’90
"I grew up in Salem, OR and graduated from South Salem High School. I graduated from the UO in 1990 with a B.A. in Spanish. I currently work at Oppenheimer Funds. I got involved in the UOAA when University representatives came out to Denver to meet with anyone interested in starting a Chapter. My husband and I attended the meeting and we both really wanted to be involved. We had just moved to Denver from Seattle and we wanted to meet fellow Ducks in the area as well as to do something for the University."
Bob Davies MBA ’91 Appointed New President of Eastern Oregon University
State Board of Higher Education president, Paul Kelly, announced this afternoon that Dr. Bob Davies, Vice President for University Relations at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, has been named the new president of Eastern Oregon University.
Kirk Schueler ’87 Confirmed to State Board of Higher Education
Governor Kulongoski’s State Board of Higher Education appointment of Bend real estate developer Kirk Schueler was confirmed last week by the Oregon State Senate. Succeeding Board member Howard Sohn of Roseburg, who served from 2004 to 2008, Schueler’s 4-year (plus a partial year) term on the Board began on February 25, 2009 and runs through June 30, 2013.

UO Students Grow from Alternative Spring Break Experience
UO Alternative Spring Break student group at the Tenderloin District in San Francisco, California working with organizations who help homeless people living with HIV/AIDS.
Students headed back to campus on Monday, March 30, to start this term's classes after a week-long spring break. Some will arrive tan from a week in the sun, others rested from a hiatus at home, but only a select few can return able to say they had a 'life-changing experience.' Galen Rupp Leads UO to Men's NCAA Track and Field Title
Galen Rupp leads his University of Oregon teammates to the men's team title at the NCAA Track and Field Championships.
In one of the most dramatic performances in collegiate track and field history, the boyish Galen Rupp flexed his diminutive muscles and carried his University of Oregon teammates to the men's team title at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The Oregon athletic department hoped to make a big splash with the hiring of a new women's basketball coach, and an unorthodox hire is already making waves.

Richard Lariviere Joins UO Officially on July 1
The state Board of Higher Education has unanimously approved the selection of University of Kansas Provost Richard Lariviere to take over as president of the University of Oregon this summer.
“The University of Oregon is an international leader because of the faculty’s outstanding teaching and research. This institution plays a vital role in the educational, civic, social and economic health of the state of Oregon...”

Dean Scott Coltrane Outlines His Vision for the College of Arts and Sciences
Scott Coltrane was appointed Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences in 2008. He comes to the UO from the University of California at Riverside, where he was most recently Associate Dean of the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. Dr. Coltrane earned his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees in sociology from UC Santa Cruz. "Faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences are among the finest researchers and teachers in the world," said Dean Coltrane. "My goal for the college is to sustain an intellectual environment that promotes new ways to understand the world and applies that knowledge to make the world a better place." Dean Coltrane sits down to talk with an Alumni Association staff member about his role since coming to the University of Oregon in 2008.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute - UO Holds Spring Open House at White Stag Block
Citizens are invited to learn about the UO Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI-UO) at an Open House scheduled from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, at the University of Oregon in Portland. This Open House will provide an opportunity to learn about OLLI-UO, membership options, and spring programming. Included in the agenda is featured lecturer, William Orr, UO professor emeritus of geological sciences, who will give a one-hour presentation on biomimicry.
