It would be naive to measure the success of a university president on keeping everyone happy. “Nobody gets through unscathed,” outgoing University of Oregon President Dave Frohnmayer said, shortly before heading home after watching daughter Amy graduate from Stanford University.

UO Voice Students Take Their Performances to the Parks
The acoustics are challenging — sometimes the traffic noise drowns out whole musical passages — but the audience has been select and enthusiastic this spring for an unusual performance program by opera students at the University of Oregon School of Music. “Spirituals for the Homeless” is the brainchild of UO opera professor Nicholas Isherwood, who sees it as a way to put his young charges in touch with a more fundamental form of singing than what they find in the traditional opera hall. » Click here to read Bob Keefer-Register Guard article.

Former UO Football Athletes Tackle the Challenge of Eating on an Ordinary Scale
If you're among the roughly 3 percent of college football players who move on to a professional team after leaving school, you'll probably spend the bulk of your career trying to maintain your, well, bulk. But for the remaining 97 percent, the recognition that pro ball is not in your future should signal a marked change in eating habits. For too many young men, it doesn't. That's the story George Dohrmann, a senior writer for Sports Illustrated, tells in the June 8 issue of the magazine. Dohrmann highlights the plight of two former linemen for the University of Oregon as they adjust their bodies to the realities of life without football. "It's a good hire," Oregon junior-to-be Kendra Little said. "Ria is young, but she's proven she can come in and take a team to the top and get us going. I'm really excited about it."
