Baltimore, MD. The Haloti Ngata, Baltimore Ravens DT & JDRF Diabetes Essay Contest ends March 31, 2008. The $1,000 prize winners will be announced at the 2008 Walk to Cure Diabetes in April in the participating states of Maryland, Utah & Oregon.
"Diabetes is a disease that affects many individuals and has struck my family personally. As a result, I am partnering with JDRF to raise awareness of diabetes and raise funds for medical research," says Ngata.
This contest is for all elementary, middle, and high schools in Maryland, Utah and Oregon. Students are asked to write a 400-500 word essay describing a project their classroom and/or school can do to raise awareness of diabetes. Diabetes is a disease that affects kids of all ages. You need not be a diabetic to enter. All essays become the property of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Submissions must be postmarked by March 31, 2008.

Haloti Ngata is a graduate of Highland High School (Salt Lake City, UT) and was a football star at University of Oregon. He currently plays for the Baltimore Ravens and resides in the Baltimore area.
