UO Supporters celebrate 25th Anniversary
of Historic Preservation Program

ReceptionAlumni and associates of the Historic Preservation Program in the School of Architecture and the Allied Arts gathered at the Pittock Mansion on September 30, 2005, to celebrate the program’s 25th anniversary. Organized by Dave Pinyerd '00, David Skilton '93, Jessica Engeman ’04, and Liza Mickle ’02, the party was a marked success with a hundred people in attendance despite stormy weather.

“We had a really great turn out representing most of the graduating classes,” Engeman reported. She enjoyed meeting alumni from earlier years whose work she had studied. The current pursuits of the alumni in attendance confirmed the nationwide impact of UO’s Historic Preservation Program.

The event coincided with the National Trust for Historic Preservation conference in Portland, where Associate Professor Emeritus Don Peting was awarded the James Marston Fitch Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Council for Preservation Education. The founder of the master's program in historic preservation, Peting has taught historic preservation and architecture at UO for more than four decades. Through his work as director of the field school and his professional practice, he has preserved structures throughout the Pacific Northwest, revealing the past to future generations. The field school is an integral element of the Pacific Northwest Preservation Partnership which received an award for excellence in historic preservation at the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers earlier this year.
