A note from the UOAA President

Portland Area Alumni and Friends,

I hope you enjoy receiving PDX Ducks, the quarterly e-newsletter exclusively for Portland Area Alumni and friends. We have found this to be a great way to connect and distribute UO news that is especially relevant to the more than 35,000 Alumni in the Portland area.

There are many exciting programs, events and opportunities in and around the Portland area that can keep you connected to the UO. In addition to attending football games and UO Alumni Association (UOAA) social functions, my “post-graduate” involvement with UO began in 1989 when I became involved with the Portland Alumni Chapter.

While I am honored to currently serve as the President of the UOAA and have served on the national Board for six years, it was a tremendously rewarding experience to be involved at the local level and to serve as a long time board member and then President of the Portland Alumni Chapter. My involvement with the UOAA became an important tool in building a social and professional network in the Portland area, while still having the opportunity to support and stay connected to the university.

The Portland Alumni Chapter needs all kinds of alumni volunteers – from board members to event planers and from leaders to party attendees! I invite you to become involved with the Portland chapter today. Board meetings are held at 6:00 p.m. on the first Monday of each month at the downtown UO Portland Center at 2nd and Yamhill. At these meetings the chapter board discusses and plans events, develops exciting programs and opportunities for alumni in the Portland area. It is also an opportunity to hear first hand what is going on at the campus in Eugene and the increasingly strong presence the UO is making in our city.

Some of the annual events coordinated by the Portland Alumni chapter in our area include the annual Holiday Music Fest (traditionally held the first Friday of December), supporting the annual Civil War Blood Drive, and volunteering at the Portland Marathon. If you get involved with the chapter, you will have an opportunity to be on the chapter’s scholarship selection committee, and perhaps also be a part of the coordinating body that honors outstanding alumni in the Portland area for service with the annual Spotlight Award and event.

The UOAA is a great way to stay connected to the university and to the Duck community in Portland. I know how busy your life can be with both personal and professional commitments, but I assure you that your involvement in the Portland Alumni Chapter will be a valuable and important part of your life. Please join me and take the time to give back to the University of Oregon, to its current and future students, and to all alumni, through a rewarding volunteer experiences with the UOAA.

I hope that you are able to get involved. I would welcome the opportunity to talk with you about UO Portland Chapter and general UOAA opportunities and can be reached at jeffn@parr.com. Amy Prince, the current Portland Alumni Chapter President would also be pleased to talk to you about getting involved with the Portland chapter. Amy can be reached at whiteduck66@hotmail.com.

We need your involvement. You will not be disappointed. I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming UO event in Portland!

Sincerely,

Jeff Nudelman ’83
