UO Sustainability Leadership Program
Awards First Certificate of Completion

Tyson Haworth, operations manager at Organically Grown Company, completed the UO Sustainability Leadership Program Certificate of Completion in winter 2005. The certificate was officially presented to Haworth by program coordinator Ruta Stabina in Portland on February 24, 2006.

Employing sustainability practices has cut costs for a multitude of organizations and companies, including Organically Grown. For example, by donating and composting the produce that is unsuitable for sale, the company has saved a considerable amount of money in hauling fees. “Composting reduces waste and saves us money. Composting gives back to the soil,” said Haworth. Organically Grown also recycles stretch wrap, office paper, tin, glass, pallets and cardboard boxes. To reduce air pollution, the company buys wind energy and runs its truck fleet on biodiesel.

The Sustainability Leadership Program offers professional development seminars on sustainability practices. These seminars have been designed for forward thinking professionals with the desire to advance their organizations with new production and organizational models for the 21st century. Workshops are available in Eugene and Portland.
