Women in Construction: A Conference to Educate and Empower
Thursday, April 27, 2017 • 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
This conference is a construction-industry focused event that addresses a range of topics in the construction industry, presented by women and men who support women, with the goal to educate and empower.
Agenda:
The morning half of the event will consist of three separate speaker panels who will present for one hour on each of the following topics:
- Hot Topics in Construction Law
- What To Do When Your Construction Project Goes Off the Rails
- The Construction Workforce Pipeline
Lunch will be catered by Bienestar Recetas Para Exito, a non-profit caterer who supports job skills training and whose profits support transition and affordable house.
At the lunch hour, there will be a short presentation on the Opening Doors Project, an education reentry program with pre-apprenticeship training at Oak Creek Juvenile Women’s Facility. The lunchtime speaker will be Dr. Roberta Hunte of Portland State University. Dr. Hunte will be speaking on the history of women and women of color in the construction industry. Her dissertation was used as the basis for the award-winning short film Sista in the Brotherhood.
After lunch, the conference continues with three more speaker panels who will present for one hour on each of the following topics:
- Building Your Network
- Equity and Addressing Intersectionality
- The Next Generation of Bosses
The day concludes with a networking reception.

Registration includes full day conference, lunch and no-host networking reception, both catered by Bienestar Recetas Para Exito, a non-profit caterer supporting job skills training for low income individuals in transition. CLE credits for Oregon State Bar members available.
