Twenty members of the University of Oregon's O Heroes program—student-athletes who provide service to the community—traveled to Casa Bianca, Peru, during summer break to build the remote mountain community’s very first sports court.
Working with Courts for Kids and local citizens, Ducks representing a variety of sports put their backs into leveling a field and pouring concrete.
Kendall Brooke, a red-shirt sophomore soccer player from West Linn, Oregon, called it a life-changing experience for everyone involved.
“I will never forget the eagerness in the kids’ faces when they saw the bags of all the new balls we had brought for them, and how they anxiously waited for us to pull them out and play on their new court,” she wrote.
