One of the UOAA's most popular member rewards is the Columbia Sportswear Employee Store access month. The company was founded by chief executive officer Tim Boyle's, '71, grandparents, who fled Nazi Germany in 1938 and opened the Columbia Hat Company in Portland. The hat store was named after the Columbia River, which flowed past their new home city.
