On this special occasion, Professor Thorsson will read from her new groundbreaking work, The Sisterhood: How a Network of Black Women Writers Changed American Culture.

Presenters

Courtney Thorsson
Courtney Thorsson is an associate professor in the English Department and Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon, where she teaches, studies, and writes about African American literature from its beginnings to the present using Black feminist methods. Her new book The Sisterhood: How A Network of Black Women Writers Changed American Culture tells the story of how a remarkable community of Black women writers and intellectuals transformed political, literary, and academic cultures.

Ericka Warren, moderator
Ericka Warren, BA ’92, MBA ‘19 is the Principal of Evolucion Group, facilitator for Try Excellence, and President of the University of Oregon Black Alumni Network. She is known nationally as a musician, educator and coach. A passionate community leader and advocate for positive change, Ericka brings extensive insight into the process of creating inclusive communities, facilitating tough discussions and community engagement strategy. She serves as strategic advisor for equity and community engagement to University of Oregon, Oregon Department of Transportation I5 Rose Quarter Improvement Project and other local and regional private entities. She was also named one of the 2021 Daily Journal of Commerce Oregon Women of Vision.
