The University of Oregon moved up three places in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings, placing 103rd among all national universities. The UO also placed 47th among public universities, 84th for best colleges for veterans, and 268th among all universities worldwide.

Leading the way on the UO campus was the special education department, which ranked third nationwide; legal writing, fourth; and dispute resolution, ranking seventh among all universities. The College of Education was ranked 12th, one of eight UO schools or programs to rank among the top 50 in the country.

According to USNWR, to be considered for the national universities rankings a university must “offer a full range of undergraduate majors, plus master’s and doctoral programs, and emphasize faculty research.” Up to sixteen indicators of academic excellence are considered, including academic reputation, financial resources, and alumni giving rate.

Global universities are ranked according to 10 criteria, including global research reputation, percentage of publications that are among the 10 percent most cited, and international collaboration.

The national university figures are taken from data collected over the previous two years, while the global rankings represent a five-year average.
