UO Announces Marquee Opponents

September 7, 2018

Football fans clamoring to see the Ducks take on more marquee out-of-conference opponents got their wish in August when the UO announced the addition of the Georgia Bulldogs, Michigan State Spartans, and Boise State Broncos to future schedules.

The Bulldogs, Spartans, and Broncos join an impressive list that includes future opponents Auburn (2019), Ohio State (2020, 2021), Brigham Young (2022), Texas Tech (2023, 2024), and Baylor (2027, 2028).

The Ducks will open the 2022 season against Georgia at the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta, Georgia. They will host Boise State in 2024 and 2026, with a game in Boise in 2025; the Michigan State series is scheduled for 2029, in East Lansing, and 2030, in Eugene.

“It’s a great honor for our program to open the 2022 season in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game and to play a great program, like Georgia,” said Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal in a university release. “As we continue to grow this program we want to challenge ourselves against the best competition. I’m also extremely excited for our fans to make the trip to Mercedes-Benz Stadium and put their passion for the Ducks on full display.”

The Ducks and Bulldogs have met just once before, with Georgia prevailing 27–16 in Athens, Georgia. Boise State has a 3–0 all-time record against the UO, with the most recent victory being a 38–28 Broncos win in the 2017 Las Vegas Bowl. The 2009 meeting between the two teams is remembered more for what happened after the final whistle, when running back LeGarrette Blount punched an opposing player and was subsequently suspended for the UO’s next 10 games. The Ducks have a .500 record against Michigan State, as the teams have three wins apiece, though the Spartans won the last time out—a 31–28 win in East Lansing in 2015.
