~ A "Letters from Silicon Valley" Series ~

Recently I asked a variety of successful people around the world about what helps them to be cheerful. Here’s a list of their answers; you’ll notice some themes of what is and is not on the list:

  1. Coffee.
  2. Going outside and looking at part of the natural world.
  3. Remembering that there will always be a tomorrow but there will never again be a today.
  4. Stopping and realizing how lucky I am.
  5. Reminding myself of the many things to be thankful for.....DAILY.
  6. Counting my blessings and always knowing there is someone out there worse off than me.
  7. Creating a thankful journal entry daily
  8. Going for brisk walks to get my heart pumping- endorphins follow.
  9. Deep breathing- clears out my head.
  10. Creating a cheerful habit- being thankful for the little daily things in life - focusing on what I want to attract.
  11. Taking time to nourish my spirit- being kind to myself so my tanks are full and I can share with others!
  12. Volunteering- school, non-profit, etc.- inspires me.
  13. Having a job that I enjoy, and working with people I enjoy.
  14. Doing what I love (for me it’s playing in a couple of bands, gigging as often as I can).
  15. Having a dog.
  16. I’m cheerful when I'm sitting and reading, undisturbed, in my living room looking out at the yard and waving at my neighbors walking by!
  17. I'm cheerful when taking a walk with my dog and spouse in a neighborhood we don't know.

  18. I find red wine after yoga to be very helpful. ;)
  19. Finding something every day to laugh out loud about.
  20. Telling a joke or doing or reading something positive, instead of paying attention to the news, just before going to sleep.

May you find peace, happiness, and success in the new year.
