Portland Science Night with Raghu Pathasarathy

February 23, 2015
Raghu ParthsarathyHeld at Widmer Brothers Brewing, these educational and entertaining events are one of the more popular UOAA and PDX Ducks happenings. The topic of February’s Portland Science Night talk was "Glimpses of Gut Microbes," presented by UO physics professor Raghu Parthasarathy.

Professor Parthasarathy is researching the microbes in the digestive tract, whose roles in health and physiology are just beginning to be understood. Those communities are still largely mysterious, so his lab is developing new microscopy-based approaches to explore microbial colonization. During "Glimpses of Gut Microbes," professor Parthasarathy discussed his lab's experiments with zebrafish, which are part of a wide range of microbiome research currently being conducted at the UO.
