Student Alumni Association member, Jesse Summers is an involved sophomore from Lowell, Oregon. Summers is a Resident Assistant in the Barnhart residence hall and is currently studying advertising while pursuing a minor in theater.
Summers explained that like most SAA members, his Mom randomly signed him up for the student-run organization but he found that the association has helped him in many ways. This past summer, Summers worked with the SAA team and he felt as though it has helped him better understand what the University and organization has to offer. By joining the SAA he has also met a number of people and enjoys using his membership as a common similarity when meeting other students.
The events that Summers enjoys the most is the Alumni Speed Networking. Last year Summers enjoyed meeting a variety of alumni and obtaining their opinions on what he is studying and what his interests are.
Summers benefits from being a member by making him more aware of events that are happening on campus and that he is able to network with many different people.
After graduation Summers is not positive what he wants to do, but he is hoping to pursue a career in producing in television media.
A piece of advice that Summers offers to incoming freshmen is to “take advantage of the opportunities that you are given.” The UO is a very large university and he recommends to put yourself out there and find out what you are most passionate about.
