Interning on the Student Alumni Leadership Team teaches experience in responsibility, event organization, and teamwork. If you are interested in a professional opportunity before entering the real work-life world, this opportunity to work with the community, staff at UO, and other students is a great option for you. Working with the Alumni Association provides opportunities to meet alumni from all types of industries. The SAA interns work with the student directors to put on events like the Beat-Tee handouts, the Etiquette Dinner, and SAA Study Hours. Interns have weekly meetings with other interns and the student directors to check-in, work on professional development, and plan SAA events.
The Student Alumni Leadership Team is broken up into five smaller teams that each has a student director and assistant-director(s). The teams are: Membership & Engagement, Alumni Relations, Philanthropy & Advocacy, Leadership Development, and Marketing & Production. Membership & Engagement:
The Membership and Engagement team plans community outreach events. They strategize ways to recruit new members, and they engage current members to come to SAA activities and take full advantage of the fun activities and professional development events involved with being a member. Students interested in sales and event planning will learn useful career skills on this team.
Alumni Relations:
The Alumni Relations team coordinates activities that connect the students with alumni. The team plans alumni tours, networking events, and the annual Alumni Awards ceremony, all of which allow for current students to attend and build their professional network. Students interested in public relations, working with alumni and public speaking will learn useful career skills on this team.
Philanthropy & Advocacy:
The Philanthropy and Advocacy team provides members engaging opportunities to give back to the community. The team organizes the annual fall canned food drive, helps plan the annual spring Day of Service, and works with the University of Oregon’s Government and Community Relations office to engage students in advocacy and opportunities to meet with lawmakers. Students interested in philanthropy, nonprofit organizations, advocacy, political science, government, and/ or education will learn useful career skills on this team.
Leadership Development:
The Leadership Development team focuses on the internal relations of the SAA internship program. They plan professional development activities for training, meetings and leadership retreats to improve the overall intern experience. Students interested in Human Resources, talent management, and leadership will learn useful career skills on this team.
Marketing & Production:
The Marketing and Production team handles external communication for the SAA. Roles include running social media accounts, blog writing, staying on top of PR initiatives, event marketing, website design, photography and video production. Students who are interested in creative strategy, marketing, production, and design will learn useful career skills on this team.
