How have your experiences and service affected your life?

Military service forever changed the trajectory of my life – for better or worse! I live with invisible scars that may never heal, and I've maximized the resources and assistance afforded to me to make the most of my life after taking off the uniform. I loved being a Marine; I wouldn't be where I am or who I am without the experience. And, I've made it my mission to improve the conditions for women who will serve after me.

Were you involved with UO Army ROTC, the Student Veterans Center, Veterans and Family Student Association, or any other organizations on campus during your time as a UO student? If so, please describe your experience.

[I was involved with the] Student Veterans Center, Veterans and Family Student Association, Peer Advisors for Veteran Education, and Get Explicit. It's hard finding your identity after service, especially as a woman veteran. I didn't always feel welcome in the same spaces that my male peers occupied. With the support of staff and faculty, we stood up PAVE (Peer Advisors for Veteran Education) and reimagined the Student Veterans Center to provide more inclusive ways for veterans to hold space for that part of their identities while welcoming or learning about new identities they are trying to embrace.

What is your current career? How did your experiences as a veteran impact your career?

I am the White House Liaison at VA. After law school, and before joining the Biden-Harris Administration, I worked at a nonprofit that provided legal advocacy to veterans using their VA education benefits. Both positions have allowed me the opportunity to give back to fellow veterans and improve the way we access the resources we've earned (and need).
