UO Capitol Reception

Members of the UO community are invited to join the University of Oregon and UO Alumni Association for the annual UO Capitol Reception in Washington, DC.

Gather with fellow alumni and friends to hear an update from University of Oregon President, Karl Scholz, on the university’s top initiatives, challenges, and successes.

The reception will include hors d’oeuvres. Beer, wine, and nonalcoholic beverages will be served.

Registration

This event is free, but space is limited. Registration closes on Tuesday, April 9. Space for walk-ups is limited.

Getting there

Take the Blue, Orange, or Silver Line to the Capitol South Metro station. You can enter through the main entrance of the Rayburn House Office Building at 45 Independence Avenue. The Rayburn House Office Building has an accessible entrance located at horseshoe drive off South Capitol Street. The building is open to the public, but everyone is required to go through a security checkpoint to enter the building.

About our Speaker

President Karl Scholz

President Scholz comes to the UO from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he was the provost and interim chancellor. He was also previously dean of the College of Letters & Science, directed the federally funded Institute for Research on Poverty and an economics professor.

An internationally respected economist, Scholz has expertise in in diverse topics including household saving, financial barriers to higher education, and bankruptcy laws. He served in economic advisor roles in two presidential administrations. He earned his economics undergraduate degree from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, and his PhD from Stanford University.
