Laura Clarke, PhD '98, a physics professor in the College of Sciences, has received the 2022 UNC Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching. The honor is the university system’s most prestigious teaching award, recognizing and encouraging faculty’s extraordinary teaching contributions.

Jared Talbot: Sharing zebrafish of every stripe

Jared Talbot, PhD '11, wants to share zebrafish with the scientific community — and now he has an award to prove it. Talbot came to the University of Maine as an assistant professor in 2019 and is now one of five researchers at the university who specializes in using zebrafish as a model organism for scientific studies — a test subject used as a proxy for human beings.

Two years of pandemic in their wake, artistic director Ken Nafziger, DMA '70, and the singers of Winchester Musica Viva will return to accustomed places this weekend at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church on Boscawen Street in Winchester. But the reunion with their audience will be Nafziger’s last two concerts as Viva’s artistic director.

The Oregon Ravens give women the chance to play a game mostly dominated by men. One of those team members is Kylee O’Connor, MS '22, who is a jack of all trades. The 25-year-old is a running back, receiver, free safety, and placekicker, along with special teams and returns.
