Friends of Oregon Rowing fundraiser nets $34,800

The Friends of Oregon Rowing’s second annual fundraising dinner this spring exceeded expectations.

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of women's rowing at UO
Revenue from the April 8 event came to $34,800 and total income more than $40,000—both figures surpassing goals and last year’s totals. These funds include monetary donations, a silent auction, and blade raise reverse auction. More than one hundred people attended the fundraiser at the Ford Alumni Center.

Proceeds will go toward supporting Oregon’s men’s and women’s rowing teams.

Don Costello with a commemorative oar plaque
The 50th anniversary of UO’s first women’s rowing team was observed during the evening. Emcee Patty Magerl Hyatt started rowing in the fall of 1973 and continues to officiate races.

Additionally, Friends of Oregon Rowing President Mike Marsh, BS ‘73 (history) presented longtime coach and mentor Don Costello with a commemorative oar plaque recognizing his service to the university and Oregon Rowing over the past fifty years. Earlier this year, an anonymous Oregon Crew alum created a substantial estate bequest to be named for Don Costello. This gift will support the UO rowing program in perpetuity.
