Head Coach Josh Baker enters his second year leading the Ducks, bringing over 15 years of competitive rowing and coaching experience. In addition to his role at Oregon, he also serves as head coach of the Eugene Rowing Club and is on the executive board of the Northwest Rowing Council, representing the University of Oregon, Eugene, and the Dexter Lake rowing community.
Joining him for the upcoming season is Coach Craig Gerlach, a proud Oregon Rowing alumnus, class of 1995, and former UO coach (’95–’97). After years of coaching at multiple levels, Craig returns with exceptional organization, passion, technical skill, and steady leadership to guide the women’s team.
The Ducks also welcome Coach Sophie Sandahl, a Seattle Pacific University rowing alum and former Renton Rowing coach. Sophie will help lead the novice crews and drive the program’s next big leap forward.
With more than 35 years of combined rowing and coaching experience, this is one of the most accomplished and well-rounded coaching staffs the program has seen in years.
Looking Ahead
The 2025–26 campaign begins September 28 with the start of fall term. With a focus on recruitment, development, and growth, athletes who arrive on campus prepared to compete and meet set ergometer standards will earn the opportunity to race at the Head of the Lake in Seattle on November 2.
In spring 2026, UO Rowing will take on full organization and planning of the Collegiate Covered Bridge Regatta, revamping the event to boost participation and create higher-quality racing opportunities for all participating teams. Alumni are encouraged to mark their calendars for Saturday, April 4, 2026, and join us at Dexter Lake to cheer on the Ducks, reconnect with the program, and be part of an exciting new chapter for one of Oregon’s signature collegiate regattas.
Oregon Rowing’s momentum is real, and the nation has taken notice. The Ducks are faster and more competitive than they have been in years, and with both men’s and women’s squads already bringing trophies back to Eugene, the foundation is set for an even bigger season ahead.
