Architecture Duck Shea Bajaj finds success in Seattle

Last November, alum Shea Bajaj’s renowned light-design company, Modern Verve, celebrated ten years.

Bajaj, who graduated from the University of Oregon in 1992 with a degree in architecture, founded the Seattle-based company to “bring life, craft, and celebration to contemporary LED lighting.” Through his designs, Bajaj creates artistic hand-crafted lights with clean modern designs that are built to last generations.

“I feel lucky to have received training in art, design, and architecture from the University of Oregon,” says Bajaj. “This has been the foundation of my career that took me from working in one of the best architecture firms here in the PNW (Olson Kundig Architects) to starting my own award-winning design and manufacturing business.”

In a recent showing of his work at Vetri Gallery, Bajaj featured new porcelain fixtures inspired by nature. Included in the exhibit were his signature Machine Flower Light which is a mechanical light that is interactive and opens and closes.

“This fixture was inspired by an Anemone flower in my front yard that I would watch open in the morning to greet the sun and close at sunset,” says Bajaj. “I thought it would be really cool to design a light that woke me up like that and then closed at night.”
