Virginia Beavert, PhD ’12 (linguistics), died Feb. 8 at the age of 102. The much-loved Yakama Nation elder dedicated her life to preserving Native languages and culture.

The UO Alumni Association recognizes and honors the Native people who have called this land home for thousands of years. This Native American Heritage Month and every month, we express our deep gratitude for the many contributions of Indigenous UO alumni, students, and faculty in their communities, at the university, and across the land we now refer to as Oregon and the US.
