Kanealii Ngosorio

Kāneali‘i Ng-Osorio earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the UO in 1998. He is now an enterprise business analyst for Kamehameha Schools, serves on the board of directors for the UO Alumni Association, and is the Hawaii Ducks regional UOAA chapter president. Kāne shares what motivates him to stay so involved supporting current and future Ducks, along with advice for current students and recent graduates.
 


 

A career committed to advocacy

Darrell Rico Doss, JD ’95, recently made the move from Capitol Hill to General Motors. He looks back on the last nearly three decades of advocacy work, including navigating the financial crisis of 2007–08, serving as Congressional Black Caucus policy director, and working in the Japanese government.

EDNEISHA CURRY, BS ’02 (sociology), who completed her first season as an assistant coach with the Portland Trail Blazers during the 2021—22 season, was chosen as keynote speaker for the Oregon Girls Sports Leadership Summit.

MARGIE YAP, BA ’79 (journalism), was featured by Oregon ArtsWatch for her lifelong study of the Japanese tea ceremony and her business, Issoan Tea School, run from her home in west Portland.

PEARL WOLFE, MS ’90 (sociology), a former Lane County supervisor and recipient of a City of Eugene Human Rights Recognition award for her work with the Hope and Safety Alliance (formerly Womenspace), coauthored Walk Out the Door, a novel about domestic violence, with Evelyn Anderton.

YOLANDA SUAREZ, BA ’96 (speech: theater arts), played the title role in Alma, a play about a single mother and undocumented immigrant living in the US with her seventeen-year-old daughter, at ArtsWest in Seattle.

ALEX KOLODKIN, PHD ’87 (biology), a professor of neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University in Maryland, was elected to the National Academy of Sciences.

PAUL MOUCHAKKAA, MBA ’00 (general business), was appointed senior managing director and head of real estate of Alberta Investment Management Corporation of Canada, leading a real estate investment team and responsible for $18 billion in domestic and foreign program assets.

KEVIN PITTS, MS ’89, PhD ’94 (physics), chief research officer at Fermilab National Accelerator Laboratory and a professor of physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, was named dean of the Virginia Tech College of Science in Virginia.

BRIAN WRIGHT, BS ’92 (speech: telecommunication and film, journalism: advertising), formerly the longtime chief merchandising officer for the Duck Store, became director of the VolShop at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, one of the top collegiate retailers in North America.

Benjamin Kalb, 1969, completed a novel, I Belong On A Warning Label about a female serial killer. It's published by Brighton Publishing, and is available on-line from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and booksamillion.com. Amazon's first shipment sold out. The novel contains lot of interesting locations, including Eugene; lot of unusual methods of kill; lot of suspense as FBI closes in on the main character. One great not-to-be-missed chapter with the main character and the Duck Mascot.

LAURA CLARKE, MS ’96, PhD ’98 (physics), a physics professor in the College of Sciences at North Carolina State University, received the 2022 UNC Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching.

COREY SCHLOSSER-HALL, BS ’92 (speech: rhetoric and communication), executive presbyter of Washington-based Northwest Coast Presbytery for 15 years, was named director of rebuilding and vision implementation for the Presbyterian Mission Agency, the ministry and mission agency of the Presbyterian Church.
